Patricia Quandel was a remarkable soul who touched our lives over the years in Chaparral Artists. Patricia's passing on April 7, 2024, marks the end of a battle with cancer, a struggle she faced with determination.
In reflecting on Patricia's life, I will remember her as a vibrant presence, characterized by her unwavering opinions, her tough spirit, and her unmistakable perfection in being exactly who she was. While we grapple with the void her absence leaves behind, we find solace in the knowledge that Patricia is now at peace, liberated from the pain and suffering she endured over these last couple months.
Though not bound by blood, I considered myself a part of Patricia's extended family, sharing quirky and great memories of our adventures together within the Chaparral Artists community. From bustling art markets to serene photographic events, Patricia's presence always colored the room with her unapologetic authenticity.
Her recent foray into watercolor painting revealed yet another facet of her indomitable spirit – her tenacity and her relentless pursuit of creative expression. Witnessing her embrace this new medium with such fervor was truly inspiring, a testament to her commitment to pushing personal boundaries and exploring new horizons.
As I bid farewell to Patricia, I am filled with gratitude for the moments we shared and the memories we created together. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rest in peace, dear Pat. You will be deeply missed.
Originally from Oklahoma, Patricia grew up in southern Arizona. After spending a few years in Orange, California, and Kailua, Hawaii, Pat moved to Twentynine Palms, California, in 1980 and lived there ever since.
Pat had been taking photos for as long as she could remember, and in 2009, she retired from her full-time job and began spending more time looking through the lens of her camera. At the same time, Pat became a member of Chaparral Artists.
Patricia mainly took nature and wildlife photographs, spending most of her spare time capturing images in the Morongo Basin, Joshua Tree National Park, and other areas in Southern California with the occasional foray into Arizona and Nevada.
