Writeup! “An Abundance of Green” Show

Springtime, renewal, growth, life - abundance

This members-only show titled "An Abundance of Green" was a themed exhibit on display at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley between March 19 and April 13.

The theme was most certainly inspired by Saint Patrick’s Day, but of course spring time as well. Already we are feeling that inkling of warmth now and again and we have been reminded of the upcoming season by all of the budding joshua trees at lower elevations and the beautiful thick blooms of Yuccas climbing up the hill from Morongo Valley.

This green themed show was an opportunity to share abstract as well as realism and everything in between. All our artists did was ask, what does an abundance of green mean to them? Flora with smaller pops of other colors, fauna in greens, and manmade scenes, abstracts in greens fit perfectly with this theme. And we saw it all!

There was no limit to the age of creations or a limit to the type of medium - though we cannot truly accommodate more than one three-dimensional piece during any of our shows because of limited floor space. Size limitations were only in place due to the allotted gallery space. This installment of beautiful green saw twenty-eight (28) entries submitted by nine (9) artists. Acrylics, mixed-media, oils, photography, and watercolor.

This members-only "LOVE" themed exhibit is on display at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley between February 19 and March 16. The theme is meant to provide a space for the representational beauty of Love. February has been a month dedicated to an array of cuteness and beauty. Of bouquets filled with scented petals and of boxes with sweet confections, but love too fills the mind with cute thoughts of cuddling creatures, of playing children, of the kindness of strangers and of the love of family.

There was no limit to the age of creations or the medium. Size limitations were only in place due to the allotted gallery space. Writeup! “Black & White” Show

An open theme for a world of possiblities

This members-only "Black & White" themed show is on display at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley between January 15 and February 16, 2022. The theme is a classic one - to work with a limited palette. Such limitation can be challenging and often eye opening, as limiting the colors allowed often forces the artist to place more importance upon composition, form, and line. The theme provides an open space for multiple media types, multiple subjects and no limit to aged creations.

We already experienced great energy during our first exhibits of the year. This particular installment accepted twenty-three entries by eleven artists. Acrylics, mixed-media, oils, pastels, graphite, pen & ink, photography, and watercolor.

The Black & White exhibit will be on display until February 16 at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley, so stop on in and enjoy! As always, we hope you find the exhibit inspiring, and while you are there, take advantage of the shopping opportunities provided by the very inviting gift shop of unique and hand made local arts, crafts, and curios.

Writeup! “Same but Different” Show

Same subject, gloriously different results

This members-only show was on display at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley between November 13 and December 15, 2021 and represents our always intriguing theme calling upon group discussion of similar subject matter, or self-understood representations of similar subject matter.

The Same but Different theme presents fun surprises around every corner. As we have explained in the past, the Same but Different show is perfect for members who attended the same workshop, where a single subject is attempted and where the results are creatively beautiful and absolutely different. Rarely do our members get to show off their workshop creations side-by-side, usually because the gallery puts a limit on workshop painted productions. But this theme also encourages members to plan ahead and attend group trips together, focusing on similar subjects so that they can share those subjects during this exhibit. And we don't stop there, because we enjoy it when creators share their own understanding of what same but different means when they bring in creative pieces highlighting different filters of the same image, reflective concepts found in nature, etc..

This Same but Different show will be on display until December 15 at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley, so stop on in and enjoy! As always, we hope you find the exhibit inspiring, and while you are there, take advantage of the shopping opportunities provided by the very inviting gift shop of unique and hand made local arts, crafts, and curios.

This Anything Goes show will be on display until September 15 at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley, so stop on in and enjoy! Writeup! “Mixed Media” Show

Look close - the surprises mix and merge in these beauties

The members show on display at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley between July 17 and August 11, 2021 represents an exciting art form - that of Mixed Media.

Mixed Media describes visual art that has been created using more than one kind of material or medium. The style has gained popularity over the last ten to twenty years especially, because of the ingenuity of creating beautiful art from recycled materials. However, the artistic expression has been on the books since the early 1900s with artworks created by Pablo Picasso.  Mixed Media often falls into categories of Collage, Assemblage, Found Object art, and Altered Books, and Wet & Dry media conjunctions. Chaparral members pleasantly surprised the group with a multitude of entries that subtly and quite drastically represented this lovely visual art form.

Twenty-Six (26) pieces, in a variety of mixed mediums and materials, are on display until August 11 at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley. As always, we hope you enjoy the display as you take advantage of the shopping opportunities provided by such an inviting gift shop of unique and hand made local arts, crafts, and curios.
