Krista Wargo - Oils

Desert Glory

Chaparral member Krista Wargo presented a beautiful collection of oil paintings throughout March at AquaFit (Center for Healthy Generations). Krista is best known for venturing outdoors to capture nature directly on site—painting en plein air. This is truly a talent, as an artist must contend with changing weather, shifting light, seasonal conditions, and limited access to amenities. Imagine capturing the beauty of a sunset that lasts only a fleeting moment!

This representational approach often requires multiple visits to a chosen location. The very act of painting amid the beauty of nature is both inspiring and deeply dedicated. My hat goes off to Krista for her commitment to plein air painting!

During March, she delighted visitors with a series of larger works, most depicting the massive, awe-inspiring boulders of our high desert landscape. In contrast, two gentle and calm still-life scenes offered a quiet reprieve—highlighting the difference between the adventurous vastness of the desert and the comforting familiarity of home. When I look at her still-life pieces, I can almost feel myself holding a warm cup of tea, surrounded by houseplants, gazing out toward the grandeur of the outdoors.

Krista certainly brightened the walls this month and left us inspired to take a hike while the weather still allows it!
