The friendly contests add an element of fun without the pressure of serious prizes. They spark conversations about what inspired each creation, whether it's a small three-dimensional ornament or a greeting card. The pig-in-the-poke game continues to be a highlight, blending the excitement of devising creative clues with the joy of unwrapping a surprise. This year, there were some twenty-five (25) items up for bidding, making the guessing and hinting part of contents a large part of the fun.
A total of ten (10) greeting cards and fourteen (14) ornaments were entered into the respective contests, each showcasing the creativity and talent of our members.
Iris Camyre emerged as the winner of the greeting card competition with her stunning fusion of stamping, painting, and three-dimensional elements. Among the eleven entries, Iris’ card stood out, though the competition was strong. I am a serious fan of the crisp and bold representation of hanging glass orbs, personally.
Victoria Sebanz was the winner of the ornament contest though she felt it was important to draw attention to the workshop leader that inspired the ornament - Nancy McHenry. They posed together for a photo later during the celebration.
As always, the 2023 Christmas party was a joy. I’m already looking forward to many more in the future!

Chaparral Artists celebrated the end of the year with a festive Christmas party on December 11, 2023. The event featured an ornament contest, a greeting card contest, and the always entertaining "Pig in a Poke." We enjoyed a delightful spread of desserts and lunch items. And finally, we enjoyed each other's company!
I absolutely love attending the Chaparral Artists' end-of-year parties. Amid the juggling of daily life and creative projects, these gatherings offer a genuine chance to connect. We share updates on our artistic endeavors, discuss roadblocks, and exchange tips on maintaining sanity, health, and inspiration. With not everyone able to attend all our monthly meetings, this party serves as a valuable opportunity to catch up before the rush of the new year begins.
