In August the Chaparral Artists' held a themed exhibition titled "Portraits" at Rainbow Stew in Yucca Valley. This members-only show showcased twenty-six (26) entries from fourteen (14) creators.
We enjoy offering themes that are interpretively open to the kinds of submissions that might fit. Traditionally, portraits focus on human faces and expressions, capturing the unique characteristics of people. However, for this exhibit, we hoped to broaden the theme to include creatures as well. We asked our members to bring in the beautiful, expressive pet portraits, stunning wildlife captures, and any friendly faces they've immortalized. This exhibit in turn showcased a diverse range of ‘portraits’ that celebrated both human and animal expressions alike.
From August 17 to September 11, visitors were treated to a collection of diverse mediums, styles, and compositions featuring portraiture of people and creatures'.
On August 17 a soft opening event took place at Rainbow Stew from 3 to 5pm, where we delighted in the company and conversation of visitors, shared updates, took a few fun group shots and listened to Julianne Miller-Boyer’s husband play the flute. Thank you for such lovely sounds!
